We didn’t tick many option boxes when speccing our A6 Avant, so which were the wise choices?

Metallic paint is a necessary option at £685, bucking residuals and improving on the rather uninspiring standard paint choice of flat white or flat black. The 20-inch alloys are an inch too far – the £910 upgrade impacting on ride quality (especially in the back seats). And charging nearly £500 for privacy glass seems a bit steep when it’s standard on cars such as the Q5.

Next time, we’ll look into the interior upgrades and run the same analysis.
