Fleet training offers chance to learn something new at Silverstone Fleet Show

By / 6 years ago / Latest News / No Comments

The workshop-style sessions are being presented by current fleet managers who have extensive fleet management experience plus expertise in a number of areas including procurement, HR, IT and finance, underlining the fact that modern fleet management is a multi-faceted discipline that interacts with all areas of a business.

Fleet Show director and publisher of Fleet World, Jerry Ramsdale commented: “No matter how long you have been in fleet, there’s always something new you can learn from the meeting of minds that you typically get at the Fleet Show seminars.

“Each of our presenters has extensive fleet management expertise and their depth of knowledge allows them to answer questions from right across the fleet spectrum.

“And such is the interactive nature of the seminars that, in the unlikely event of our experts being unable to answer one of the questions, there is every likelihood that someone in the audience will.”

At this year’s Show on Tuesday, May 12th, which is sponsored by Barclaycard Fuel + in association with TMC, the three workshops are being held in the seminar theatre in the Silverstone Wing.

In the chair is Dennis Dugen, Car Fleet and Employee Benefits Manager for professional consultancy, WSP UK, one of last year’s highly-rated presenters.

The first session, beginning at 10.30am, will focus on The Fundamentals of Fleet Management and will be presented by Andrew Houston, Head of Information and Communication Technology and Fleet from Altro Group plc, and Nigel Grainger, former Fleet Manager at A-Plant.

The second session, at 11.30, will see Dennis Dugen team up with David Oliver, Procurement Manager for Red Bull, to discuss the finer points of Fleet Procurement.

And the final session, beginning at 12.30, will be presented by Glenn Ewen, Fleet Manager for Clear Channel UK, in conjunction with Dennis Dugen, and will consider Environmental Fleet Management and how best to implement a green fleet policy.

As before, audience participation will be actively encouraged and lively discussion and debate is expected. Last year’s seminars proved hugely popular, and attracted large audiences of fleet decision-makers for each session.

Jerry Ramsdale added: “Once again, we are very grateful to our practising fleet managers for helping us put on these informative workshop-style training sessions.

“Show visitors last year said they rated the interactive nature of the sessions very highly. And we believe this is one of the factors behind the record numbers of pre-registrations that we have for this year’s Show, which are up 118% on the same time last year.”

This year’s Fleet Show has already broken a string of records, with the highest ever number of exhibitors, up 73% on last year, including a record number of fleet service companies.

The event has also attracted a record 26 vehicle manufacturers, including several who have never participated before, such as Ford Motor Company and the Fiat Group, giving fleet managers the opportunity to evaluate the very latest conventionally powered vehicles, alongside pure electric and hybrid models.

And they will again be able to experience test driving on three circuits of the world-famous Silverstone Grand Prix venue, plus off-road driving on the challenging 4×4 course.

Meanwhile, the Silverstone Wing will again play host to a wide-ranging fleet exhibition that includes contract hire and leasing suppliers, daily rental companies, fleet management and fleet servicing providers, fleet software suppliers, licence checking companies, recharging infrastructure suppliers, fuel card providers, mileage capture specialists and trade associations.

This area will also provide Show visitors with the chance to hold face-to-face meetings and network with exhibitors and other visitors alike.

With a tiny amount of stand space still available, would-be exhibitors will need to move fast to take advantage of the last few remaining places.

Jerry Ramsdale said: “Anyone who would like to exhibit needs to get in touch as soon as possible as there is still a tiny amount of space available. Demand for this year’s Show has been overwhelming and we have set new records in all areas of the event.”
