Fiat unveils new 98g/km Tipo hatchback and estate at Geneva Motor Show

The c-segment models, which replace the Bravo, will play a key role in the fleet sector and are focused on practicality with class leading legroom and boot space.

The new hatchback measures 4.37m long, 1.79m wide and 1.50m tall, and brings boot capacity of 440 litres – said to be best in class.

The estate adds an extra 20cm in length and also measures 1.51m high thanks to the standard-fit longitudinal roof bars. Class-leading boot space of 550 litres is offered along with the ability to carry loads of up to 1.8m in length. Practical features include the folding 60/40 split rear seats, completely flat load floor, low load sill and removable side storage panels. Both models also offer 12 litres of storage space onboard.

The hatchback and estate will be offered in three trim levels with standard kit including air con, remote central locking, rear electric windows (estate only), electric mirrors, six airbags, DAB digital radio and Bluetooth connectivity with steering wheel remote controls.

The engine range will comprise five engines in total. There are two turbo diesel engines – a 94bhp 1.3-litre MultiJet II and a 118bhp 1.6-litre MultiJet II, while the petrol engine range comprises a 94bhp 1.4-litre 16V, a 118bhp 1.4 turbo petrol and 108bhp 1.6-litre e-TorQ engine, which comes with a six-speed, torque converter automatic transmission.

The 118bhp 1.6 litre turbo diesel is the economy champion and offers 76.3mpg on the combined cycle with 98g/km of CO2 emissions. This engine can also be combined with a six-speed TCT twin-clutch transmission.

The Tipo goes on sale in the UK in September. Full details will be announced closer to the vehicle’s launch but Fiat said pricing “aims to be extremely competitive”. The brand added that plans to launch the saloon in the UK are still be confirmed.
