Enterprise Rent-A Car reaches milestone in global pledge to support reforestation

In 2007, the firm pledged to plant 50 million trees in 50 years in Europe and North America 2007 to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary.

The 10 millionth tree was planted at Heartwood Forest in Hertfordshire with volunteers from some of Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s 14 branches around the area taking part in the initiative and planting saplings at the site.

Around 1,000 trees were planted on the day, consisting of a mixture of native broadleaf tress including Hazel, Rowen, Cherry, Willow and Oak.

Enterprise has partnered with the Woodland Trust for a number of years to deliver the UK portion of its global tree planting project. So far, this has resulted in Enterprise supporting the planting of over 700,000 trees in the UK with more than 400,000 of those in association with the Woodland Trust.

Louise Neicho, Heartwood Forest site manager for the Woodland Trust, said: “The fact that Heartwood Forest has been selected for the 10 millionth tree in Enterprise’s 50 Million Tree Pledge is tremendously important. As England’s largest new native woodland, Heartwood Forest is playing a vital part in promoting biodiversity and helping species that had been at risk to flourish. We welcome investment from business to help us develop this vital new woodland and we thank Enterprise for supporting us in this generous way.”

According to the Arbor Day Foundation, Enterprise’s planting partner in the US, 10 million trees can absorb more than 10 million pounds of carbon, produce oxygen for up to 40 million people per day and lift as much as a billion gallons of water out of the ground and into the air.
