The new model feature a revised Euro 5 compliant 2.0 CDTi diesel that's equipped with Start/Stop technology – a first for the range. In addition, aerodynamic tweaks and low rolling resistance tyres have helped reduce CO2 emissions by 10% from the last model's 129g/km. As a result, the new 115g/km Insignia ecoFLEX diesel now slots in to the 13% BiK tax band for the first time.

The 128bhp engine gives the Insignia ecoFLEX a top speed of 129mph, with 0-60mph in 10.4 seconds. There's also a higher-powered 158bhp version of the 2.0 CDTi, which posts a 137mph top speed and 0-60mph in 8.9 seconds. CO2 emissions for this model haven't been released but will come in under 120g/km according to Vauxhall. Both engines also offer the same torque as the outgoing versions, with 221lb.ft and 258lb.ft respectively.

Prices start from £20,345 for the ES 2.0 CDTi (128bhp) ecoFLEX Start/Stop Hatchback and go up to £29,385 for the top-of-the-range SRi Nav Vx Line Red Sports Tourer (158bhp) ecoFLEX.

In addition, Vauxhall has now added a 1.4 Turbo engine to the range. This model emits 129g/km of CO2 (15% BiK) while achieving 51.4mpg in the hatchback and saloon.

The 1.4 Turbo is priced from £18,680 for the ES Hatchback up to £27,110 for the SRi Nav Vx Line Red Sports Tourer.
