E.On launches cheaper renewable energy tariff for EV drivers

E.On has introduced a duo of new energy tariffs, bringing cheaper renewables-backed charging for electric vehicle drivers.

The new ‘Next Drive’ best-value tariff for EV drivers gives cheaper overnight driving

Launched under its E.On Next sustainable energy supply subsidiary, the new tariffs join the existing fixed and variable rate tariffs and include a new ‘Next Drive’ best-value solution for EV drivers, giving cheaper overnight driving.

The tariff still offers 100% renewable electricity as standard but also allows drivers to charge their cars at a fixed price of 4p per kWh between midnight and 4am, potentially saving customers up to £188 a year. Outside of off-peak hours, Next Drive is priced at 17.6p per kWh.

The cheaper overnight charging is activated using the free Next Drive app5 to ‘set it and forget it’ and automatically schedules charging at the cheapest off-peak times. Customers can also use the app, developed in partnership with EV charging experts ev.energy, to monitor the energy use, costs and savings of their at-home charging over time.

The other new tariff offsets the carbon emissions associated with customers’ gas use, while again providing 100% renewable electricity as standard. It’s priced at £1,075 for a typical dual fuel customer.

The move comes after research revealed that nine in ten Brits ranked being more environmentally friendly in 2021 a top priority.

Michael Lewis, E.On UK CEO, said: “We’ve provided 100% renewable electricity as standard and at no extra cost for all our customers’ homes for almost two years. Now, through E.On Next, we’re giving people simple ways to make their heating and hot water and their driving more sustainable.

“In addition to greener tariffs, we offer a range of solutions to help people better manage their energy through smart, personalised and sustainable technologies, so we can all play our part in meeting the nation’s net zero ambitions.”
