Driver licence checks on the increase

According to new data from the Leasedrive Velo Group, a growing number of fleets are using its licence checking module, Licence:Manager, which forms part of its Drive:Manager online fleet management system.

In the past 12 months, the number of customers subscribing to Licence:Manager has risen by 44%, with over two-thirds of clients now regularly checking employee driving licence records through the robust and fast-track solution.

Commercial director, Roddy Graham said: 'Regular driving licence checking, whether outsourced or performed in-house, should be a given for any organisation serious about its duty of care responsibilities.

'This is even more paramount now that the DVLA has reduced its 12-month concessionary period to 28 days from 7 November. Any driver who fails to surrender his or her driving licence for endorsement to the court or DVLA receives a letter requesting the return of the licence to Swansea. And now DVLA will only give the driver 28 days to comply before revoking the driving licence.
This increases the likelihood of some employees maybe driving "at work" while disqualified.

'Licence checking among grey fleet drivers is even more critical. All 'at work' drivers should be checked at least once a year and preferably more regularly – ideally every quarter.'
