The firm is one of more than 50 business champions in the Driving for Better Business campaign, run by RoadSafe, which shares best practice for the management of at-work road safety within the business community.

Langleys has already passed on its expertise to representatives of around 160 employers at various events, and it will continue spreading the at-work driving gospel to more fleet decision-makers later this month.

On Wednesday 16 February, partner Jeremy Scott, who has championed the road safety strategy at Langleys Solicitors, will be speaking at a workshop at the firm’s offices at Queen’s House, Micklegate, York. The workshop will focus on the effective management of “grey” fleets.

Last year Langleys Solicitors won the Fleet Safety Award for Small Fleets at Fleet World’s annual awards. Langleys operates just six company cars and two pool cars, but more than 150 of its almost 300 employees drive their own cars on business.

Over the years, the firm’s employees have been involved in very few accidents and since becoming a business champion fleet the organisation has been crash-free.

Mr Scott said: ‘We recognised the importance of putting our own systems in order and developing a culture of responsibility for safety internally. As a result, we are better able to advise our clients and other organisations on how best to manage their own occupational road risk. We believe that we have a duty to promote the financial, legal and moral reasons for organisations across the public and private sectors to invest in at-work driving safety.

‘Through our outreach programme we are particularly targeting small and medium sized enterprises that may be unaware of their legal duty of care responsibilities to staff that drive on business whether that is a company-provided vehicle or their own.’
