Crisis management best practice revealed in new report

New guidance on establishing at best practice approach to post-crash management is now available from Brake’s Global Fleet Champions campaign.

The guidance outlines how fleet managers can introduce policies to enable a timely, appropriate and empathetic response to a crash

The ‘Crisis management: Post-crash action and care’ report features advice from a range of fleet experts to help organisations deal with the significant financial, operational and reputational consequences that can occur as a result of a crash.

The report includes guidance from road safety consultant Andrew Spence-Wolrich, who explains how to develop a good post-crash management strategy.

In addition, MiX Telematics advises fleet managers how to use telematics effectively in order to identify the causes of a crash – including operational weaknesses that may have contributed. Meanwhile critical care paramedic Neil Bizzell outlines some basic actions that drivers can carry out to help protect themselves and others in the event of a crash. He also lists the essential equipment that all drivers should have on hand to enable them to carry out emergency care when needed.

Certified trauma counsellor Rosie Murray MBE outlines how it’s vital that fleet managers look after the emotional and psychological needs of drivers after a crash has occurred. She explains that good care, compassion and support can help people come to terms with traumatic events and minimise some of the longer-term consequences of being involved in a serious crash.
