There are already 12 publically accessible charging points located across the city, which will be joined by a network of fast chargers installed by the City of York Council over the coming months. These will be located in city centre car parks, Park & Ride sites, supermarkets, hotels and the York Designer Outlet, offering quick battery top-ups and the ability to check energy usage remotely.

Cllr Dave Merrett, City of York Council’s Cabinet member for transport, planning and sustainability, said: ‘Decarbonising transport is crucial to meeting the UK’s climate change CO2 reduction target. Electric cars only cost about two pence per mile to run and create no harmful emissions, so by bringing charging points to the city we are giving the people of York the potential to save money and travel more sustainably.’

The Council will hold an event at the York Designer Outlet on the 10^th of April to promote the new network, offering electric vehicle test drives and with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, which recently added the Vauxhall Ampera to its fleet, in attendance.
