City of London deploys first electrified vehicles on Epping Forest fleet

City of London has taken delivery of three Mitsubishi Outlander PHEVs for use in the patrol and maintenance of Epping Forest as it migrates to a ULEZ-compliant fleet for the renowned conservation area.

The Outlander PHEV was chosen for its combination of value, 4WD and ULEZ-compliant electric/petrol drivetrain

Marking the first electrified vehicles to be used on the Epping Forest fleet, the trio of specially converted Outlander PHEVs were chosen for their combination of value, four-wheel drive as well as their ULEZ-compliant electric/petrol drivetrains.

The conversions were carried out by Mitsubishi Motors in its dedicated MSVO (Mitsubishi Special Vehicle Operation) division, without the need for third-party converters, equipping the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEVs as full rapid response vehicles in line with the dual Special Constable status of the Epping Forest keepers.

Martin Newnham, head keeper and constable, Epping Forest, said: “The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV was the best fit for our requirements based on affordability and performance. Four-wheel drive was essential but there was also a need for a level of electrification that would help us to lower our carbon footprint and enhance our care of Epping Forest.”
