Chinese automaker Great Wall expands to UK market starting in Londonderry

By / 6 years ago / Latest News / No Comments

Joining Great Wall’s established network of 48 outlets in the UK mainland, Eakin Bros will begin with sales of the new Steed pick-up and provide owners with dedicated parts and service facilities.

Founded in 1923, Eakin Bros trades from the same site in Claudy, Londonderry, which the current managing director’s grandfather opened nearly 90 years ago; indeed the MD’s father is still active in the business with nearly 60 years’ experience, giving the business unrivalled knowledge of the needs and expectations of the local community. Expectations are high that the Steed pick-up will prove popular in Northern Ireland, amongst trade and recreational users alike.

The Steed is already attracting interest from buyers of both new and used pick-ups across the UK, thanks to its combination of robustness, practicality and unrivalled value. Powered by an award winning and newly developed 2.0-litre, 16-valve turbocharged diesel engine, the Steed delivers a combined fuel economy of 34.0 mpg. It also has best-in-class insurance ratings – 7A for the Steed S and 8A for the range-topping Steed SE.

Carrying capacity compares very well with established rivals – the maximum payload is 1,050kg – and towing capability is an impressive 2,000kg with a “braked” trailer and 750kg unbraked.  Meanwhile, the vehicle’s high ground clearance and ‘on demand’ four-wheel drive system make it a capable load-lugger off-road, as well as a comfortable on-road companion.

‘We’re incredibly excited to join Great Wall in the early stages of its history in the UK and to lead it into Northern Ireland,’ says Peter Eakin, managing director of Eakin Bros.  ‘We have high hopes for our partnership with the company – our combination of extensive experience and cutting-edge workshop technology means we are perfectly placed to service the needs of our customers,’ he added.

Great Wall managing director, Paul Hegarty, adds: ‘The appointment of Eakin Bros offers Great Wall a fantastic opportunity to expand our network into an important new market for the brand.  We believe that the dealership is in an excellent position to help our expansion and look forward to a long and prosperous partnership.’

Great Wall anticipates strong sales in 2013 due to the planned expansion of its dealer network and a new addition to its UK model line-up.  The Great Wall H6 SUV will combine bold styling, high levels of equipment and the kind of outstanding value for which the company is famed.

So that the buying and ownership experience of a Steed is as rewarding and trouble-free as possible, all dealers – including Eakin Bros – have committed to the "Great Wall Promise" which includes inflation-proof servicing plans and free service pick-up and drop-off.  All Steeds come with a comprehensive three-year / 60,000-mile mechanical warranty, a six-year anti-perforation warranty, three-year paint warranty and three-year roadside assistance.
