Chargemaster to launch more than 2,000 new charging sites under £15m investment

EV charging points specialist Chargemaster has announced plans to invest £15m in its charging network including launching new charging locations and technologies.

The company will launch more than 2,000 new charging locations across the UK.

The investment programme will see the company launch more than 2,000 new charging locations across the UK in addition to advanced charging technologies, including support and back office systems as well as new user access systems, such as contactless credit card payments and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR). These will complement its current access mechanisms, including Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) cards and smartphone apps.

New updates to the website and app will also be introduced, providing additional information on each site, including points of interest and available facilities, such as cafes, rest stops and WiFi access.

The company has already started to introduce more than 250 new Ultracharge units across the UK in 2017, with the rapid charge units installed across multiple Q-Park locations in London.

The announcement comes as Chargemaster completes the acquisition of Elektromotive and Charge Your Car following clearance from the Competition and Markets Authority last week, giving Chargemaster Polar customers access to more than 5,000 charging points throughout the UK.

Chargemaster said it also has a number of demo projects launching over the next few years.

David Martell, chief executive of Chargemaster, commented: It is widely expected that within the next 10 years, around 50% of new cars sold will be electrically powered. Chargemaster is investing heavily to ensure that the UK is fully equipped to deal with this new generation of motoring, and that it has the most robust, reliable and available charging network in the world.
