Brake webinar to spotlight risks from speeding drivers

A free webinar is being run for fleets to help them deal with the risks posed by driver speed.

The event will cover the psychological and environmental factors that may tempt drivers to speed

The ‘Spotlight on managing driver speed’ webinar will run on Tuesday 2 March 2021 at 2pm GMT and is being held by Global Fleet Champions, the road safety initiative run by Brake.

The event will cover the psychological and environmental factors that may tempt drivers to speed, how speed correlates with crash risk, and the technologies and policies that can help to reduce speeding in fleet organisations.

It will feature a presentation by Dr Shaun Helman, a traffic and transport psychologist and the Transport Research Laboratory’s chief scientist: behaviour, data and mobility. A recording of the webinar will be available to view after the event has taken place.

It’s the latest in the series of Global Fleet Champions spotlights, which provide short, focused webinars to help anyone employing people who drive for work to manage road risk within their organisation. Each Spotlight provides in-depth insight into a particular topic relevant to fleet safety programmes.

Scott Williams, head of programme delivery at Brake, said: “Speed plays a part in most crashes, and the faster a vehicle is travelling when it hits something, the more devastating the outcome will be. Knowing how to manage speed, and the policies and technologies that can reduce the risk of a crash occurring, are essential for keeping your drivers and members of the public safe on the roads.”
