Tweaked styling and new interior technology aside, biggest facelift BMW X1 news, is the addition of a plug-in hybrid version – the X1 xDrive 25e. Coming next year, highlights of the hybrid powertrain include the addition of an electric motor, that mean this X1 can travel up to 31 miles on electric power alone. All with CO2 emissions of just 43g/km.

In addition, all the other diesel and petrol engines, from the entry-level sDrive18i petrol to the punchy 20d diesel, now meet Euro 6d-TEMP emissions standards.

Outside, you’ll spot a facelifted X1 by the larger BMW kidney grille – with the two intakes merging in the middle. Revised LED headlights, the front bumper now features integral LED foglamps and larger air intakes.

At the back, the rear bumper is re-profiled, plus the LED rear lights have been redesigned – with a single LED bar drawing the familiar L signature from side to side. Look closer, and the rear exhaust tailpipes have grown to 90mm, with four-cylinder models getting twin tailpipes.

Elsewhere, there are new exterior colours and alloy wheels designs to finish off the new look.

Inside, the BMW X1 now has an updated Navigation system, with either an 8.8-inch or the optional 10.25-inch Touch Control Displays. The biggest screen featuring the tiling display, first seen on the current Five-Series

This latest model features the sixth generation of BMW’s iDrive introducing touchscreen control, alongside the iDrive Controller and optional intelligent voice control. Modern black-panel technology is fitted as standard to every BMW X1 for the instrument cluster, and it comes with a 5.7-inch TFT Info Display.

BMW’s ConnectedDrive services add ‘convenience-enhancing’ functions including Real Time Traffic Information and a Concierge Service that allows you to book and pay for things on the move. Options include Apple CarPlay and a full-colour Head-up Display, that’s unique to this sector. This projects all important driving information and navigation/assistance system readouts onto the windscreen and driver’s field of view – in high resolution.

The new BMW X1 goes on sale from 29 May 2019 with Customer deliveries from mid-July 2019, prices starting from £28,795.
