BMW 2 Series Coupé makes global debut

The BMW 2 Series Coupé has debuted at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2021 ahead of its arrival in early 2022.

The BMW 2 Series Coupé is priced from £34,980 and due for UK launch in early 2022

Priced from £34,980, the second-generation coupé retains its standard rear-wheel drive set-up and is the only vehicle in its segment to offer a six-cylinder in-line engine. It also incorporates latest BMW styling.

Longer, wider and lower than its predecessor, the 2 Series Coupé gets an optimised chassis and near 50:50 weight distribution. Boot capacity is up 20 litres to 390 litres.

It will initially be offered in three variants: the entry-level 184hp 220i four-cylinder petrol and the £36,900 190hp 220d four-cylinder diesel – both in M Sport specification – alongside the £45,795 range-topping all-wheel-drive M240i xDrive Coupé. The latter is powered by a 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line petrol with 374hp – 34hp more than its predecessor – and has intelligent all-wheel drive with a noticeable rear-wheel bias.

All come with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission fitted as standard. Emissions start at 132g/km for the 220d and rise to 200g/km for the M240i xDrive.

Standard equipment includes three-zone automatic climate control and BMW Live Cockpit Professional, which brings a 12.3-inch high-resolution instrument cluster behind the steering wheel and a 10.25-inch control display.

The new BMW 2 Series Coupé is also fitted as standard with acoustic glazing for the windscreen and a rain sensor with automatic headlight activation. Electrically adjustable, heated and folding exterior mirrors are additional standard kit, as is three-zone automatic climate control and LED lighting for the interior.

The standard M Sport trim can be enhanced with the M Sport Pro package, adding in M Sport brakes, 19-inch M light-alloy wheels, M High-gloss Shadow Line with extended features, the M lights Shadow Line and a black M rear spoiler. It also gets a Harman Kardon hi-fi speaker system and M seat belts.

Extra driver assistance systems also debut on the new model. Front-collision warning is standard fit and includes collision warning with braking function and pedestrian and cyclist warning with braking function.

Speed Limit Info with no-overtaking indicator is also standard, as is an enhanced version of Lane Departure Warning with lane return, which can be used when travelling at speeds between 44 and 130mph.

The optional Driving Assistance includes Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function.
