Benefits of electric vehicles showcased in new Christmas tree collection service

The Go Ultra Low campaign is running a Christmas tree collection service to encourage a sustainable start to the new year while also highlighting the benefits of electric vehicles.

Taking place for residents in Brighton & Hove, Birmingham and Camden, London, the ‘Clean Start’ service uses electric vans provided by Citroën, Mercedes-Benz Vans and Renault to transport Christmas trees to local collection points and recycling centres, where they will be disposed of in an environmentally friendly fashion.

Secretary of State for Transport Grant Shapps said: “As we begin a new decade, I want to see more electric vehicles on the roads, driving us towards a net zero emissions future.

“Clean Start’s fresh approach shows how working together to make small changes will lead to big improvements for our society and the environment.”

The campaign follows the release of 2019 electric vehicle registrations for the UK, which show 72,766 fully electric and plug-in hybrid cars were registered.

Poppy Welch, head of Go Ultra Low, said: “This campaign has been the perfect opportunity to demonstrate the versatility of offerings in the current EV market. With more than 45 cars now available and an increasing number of vans, there’s a vehicle to suit a huge variety of consumer and business needs, no less Christmas tree collection. With lower running and maintenance costs too, it’s no surprise that 2019 was another record year for the electric vehicle market. I expect to see this trend continue in 2020 as even more people discover the financial and environmental benefits of owning an EV.”
