Auto Windscreens awarded more internationally-recognised ISO accreditations

By / 12 years ago / Latest News / No Comments

ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 have been awarded to the company by the British Standards Institution (BSI), one of the world's leading certification bodies. The two accreditations cover the head office in Chesterfield and all 27 fitting centres nationwide.

ISO 14001 is designed to address the right balance between maintaining business profitability and reducing environmental impact. Companies are required to demonstrate their commitment to ‘green’ business practises and monitoring energy consumption and use of natural resources. Auto Windscreens’ Environmental Management System (EMS) ensures all issues are managed internally for each geographical area and for each department. All environmental inputs and outputs are measured and reported on every six months. The EMS will be monitored through internal audits and assessed by external bodies.

Mark Foster, Service Delivery director for Auto Windscreens, explained: ‘Of all our fitting centres, the Edinburgh site covers the largest area, and on average, a technician can do as many as 1,000 miles per week. Wherever possible, we minimise travelling distances by scheduling work runs geographically, to maximise service delivery and minimise environmental impact. None of our waste is sent to landfill – it’s all recycled. The windscreens and windows we remove, for example, become glass bottles and when our company vehicles are serviced, waste oil is collected for reprocessing.’

OHSAS 18001 for occupational health and safety helps companies to identify, control and reduce risk. Mark added: ‘The nature of our business means we have many different “workplaces”, from offices and fitting centres, to roadsides and driveways. We’re committed to keeping our staff, customers and visitors safe, wherever they are.

‘Auto Windscreens is dedicated to managing its health and safety and environmental responsibilities with the same degree of expertise and enthusiasm as it manages all other aspects of its business.

‘Achieving all three standards is the result of the combined effort of each member of our team, but a special mention must go to Vanessa Jones, our Health and Safety manager and Quality and Auditing Officer, Mark Oldfield, who managed the process. These standards enable us to demonstrate our commitment to deliver the highest standards of quality and service to our customers and safety to our staff, while ensuring consistency across all sections of the business,’ he concluded.
