Allstar’s carbon-offsetting initiative reaches environmental milestone

The trees have been planted in 1,968 acres of new woodlands (which is the equivalent of over 1000 football pitches) – equating to nearly 4% of all new woodland creation in the UK over the period.

The trees will capture over 266,182 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere in the coming decades, as assessed by the government-backed Woodland Carbon Code, making a significant contribution to the UK’s fight against climate change.

The scheme was launched by the fuel card provider and Forest Carbon, a leading developer of new carbon woodland projects, in January 2015 to help fleet customers improve their green credentials.

Allstar customers that sign up to the EcoPoint scheme pay a small fee for 100% carbon capture of their CO2 emissions. This, in turn, provides the means to create and protect woodlands that are quality assured by the UK Government’s Woodland Carbon Code, which certifies projects to ISO standards. Customers that subscribe to EcoPoint can also be provided with an annual e-certificate to show how many trees have been planted for them and how much carbon dioxide they are expected to capture.

Commenting on the success of the scheme, Stephen Prior, director, Forest Carbon, said: “The fact that over 20,000 Allstar customers with circa 170,000 vehicles subscribe to EcoPoint highlights the importance that UK businesses place on compensating for their carbon emissions.

“In a short space of time, Allstar customers who have joined EcoPoint have helped plant over 1,000,000 trees that will not only capture over 266,000 tonnes of CO2, but will also bring other benefits for the society as a whole, such as flood mitigation and public recreation space, which will go way beyond carbon capture. It’s an incredible achievement.”
