Activa Contracts partners with UK Fuels to drive savings for fleets

Activa Contracts has appointed UK Fuels as its new fuel card partner in a deal that’s already bringing major fuel savings for one customer.

Activa Contracts customer Hughes Electrical is on track to save £24k on its annual fuel bill thanks to the tie-up with UK Fuels

The tie-up provides Activa Contracts customers with access to one of the most comprehensive range of fuel cards available, designed to meet fleets’ individual requirements, while also enabling use of UK Fuels’ Velocity online management tool and its e-route journey planner.

Hughes Electrical, one of the UK’s largest electrical retailers, has become one of the first fleets to introduce the solution and has calculated it could cut its fuel bill by around £24,000 in the first 12 months of using the service

The business signed up Activa Contracts on a sole-supply, fully outsourced deal two years ago through its Hughes TV retail arm, and has since expanded with the acquisition of commercial laundry equipment supplier, James Armstrong. The two businesses combined operate a fleet totalling some 185 light commercial vehicles and 50 company cars.

The acquisition led Hughes Electrical to pilot a solution with UK Fuels that offered access to key oil company sites and the whole UK Fuels’ network, which incorporates a range of own brand, independent and supermarket sites. The platform was then introduced to the James Armstrong fleet of 35 light commercial vehicles and five company cars, and is due to be rolled out across the remainder of the fleet.

The company estimates that it will cut its £600,000 per annum fuel bill by up to 4% – £24,000 – following introduction of the new fuel card solution company-wide while the firm will also benefit from reduced administration thanks to the Velocity portal.

Commenting on the tie-up with Activa Contracts, UK Fuels regional director Jonathan Haesler said: “This is an existing and important partnership for us as we can clearly see the mutual benefits of working together to provide innovative and cost-effective solutions for Activa customers. We are confident that we will see more examples like this one helping to promote our relationship in such a way that it really offers added value for Activa Contracts’ customers, which works well collectively for both organisations.”
