59% of employers believe driver eyesight testing would reduce collisions

The independent survey of more than 100 heads of UK companies and organisations was carried out by Specsavers Corporate Eyecare found that 59% of employers believe that regular eyesight tests for employees would bring benefits, with just 10% of employers disagreeing.

Furthermore, 61% said they also thought that testing drivers' eyesight would save the business or organisation money overall.

Volvo Car UK is one firm whose drivers have been benefiting from eyecare provision under its arrangement with Specsavers Corporate Eyecare.

Selwyn Cooper, head of business sales at Volvo Car UK, said: “We are delighted to see the results of this research as it is confirmation of something we have believed for some time. It is part of our duty of care to our employees to provide eyecare to all drivers. We have always been confident that this is a money-saving exercise as well as a life-saving one, but it is good to see that other employers feel the same way and we hope they too will implement a robust eyecare policy.”
