2022 Mazda CX-5: Prices and specs revealed

Mazda has introduced a significantly updated version of its CX-5 SUV, featuring an updated design, new models and increased trim differentiation.

The CX-5 Newground, priced from £28,845, brings a more rugged look and is new for 2022

Available to pre-order now, it’s priced from £27,845 and introduces latest Kodo Design styling, bringing revised front and rear bumpers, and new headlight and taillight clusters.

It also ushers in new technology, including Mazda Intelligent Drive select (Mi-Drive), which enables the driver to select the most appropriate drive mode with one touch of a switch.

Models featuring i-Activ AWD also get an Off-Road Mode to bring added traction on slippery surfaces.

The CX-5 also gets Mazda’s latest Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture concept, focused on enhancing ride comfort and reducing fatigue through updates to the bodyshell, suspension and seats. It also offers greater refinement through reduced road noise.

And the 2022 CX-5 now features wireless Qi phone charging tray in the centre console, while the updated range of i-Activsense safety systems standard across the range now includes Cruise & Traffic Support (CTS). The front adaptive LED headlights have also evolved to give finer control over light distribution.

The revised trim line-up encompasses five grades in the UK – SE-L, Newground, Sport, Sport Black and GT Sport. All are now marked out from each other with subtle styling differentiation and the Newground, Sport Black and GT Sport, which are new for 2022, feature standout styling.

The entry-level SE-L model comes with either a 165hp Skyactiv-G petrol or 150hp Skyactiv-D engine while the Newground model, priced from £28,845, brings a more rugged look, including silver lower body side skirts, black door mirrors and 19-inch black diamond cut alloy wheels, along with lime accents inside and out.

The Sport model – which is predicted to be the biggest seller in the UK – is priced from £30,945 and comes with a choice of 165hp Skyactiv-G petrol or 150hp and 184hp Skyactiv-D diesel, the latter with a choice of front- or all-wheel drive.

The new Sport Black trim also brings particularly distinctive styling, including gloss black detailing and red accents, and is offered exclusively with the 165hp Skyactiv-G petrol engine and front-wheel drive, priced from £32,945.

Sitting at the top of the 2022 Mazda CX-5 range and priced from £33,345, the GT Sport comes with a brown Nappa leather and woodgrain. It’s available with both the 2.0-litre 165hp Skyactiv-G and 194hp 2.5-litre Skyactiv-G petrol, the former with front-wheel drive, while the latter comes exclusively with all-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox with cylinder deactivation. The GT Sport is also offered with the 184hp Skyactiv-D diesel matched to all-wheel drive.

Deliveries of the updated CX-5 start in January.
