2021 Volkswagen Polo gets semi-autonomous driving tech

Volkswagen has revealed its updated Polo, which gets a new look, extra equipment including semi-autonomous features and the brand’s Digital Cockpit.

Sales of the facelifted Polo start in the third quarter of 2021

Starting pre-sales in May, the revised version of the sixth-gen supermini receives new front and rear styling, including LED headlights and tail light clusters as standard, while interactive IQ.Light LED matrix headlights debuted in the Touareg are available as an option.

The range also introduces a range of other new standard features. These include the Digital Cockpit, already seen on models such as the Golf and replacing the traditional dash with a customisable high-resolution display and digital gauges.

Other standard equipment includes an infotainment system with 6.5-inch monitor, a Bluetooth mobile phone interface, exterior mirrors that can be electrically adjusted and heated, and electric windows throughout.

Options include the IQ.Drive Travel Assist tech – said to mark a first for the supermini sector. This brings together the new predictive Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Assist – which now comes as standard in every Polo – to enable partly automated driving.

Drivers can also opt for the 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro (including image of caller, Coverflow, map view and Slide Show), background lighting and the 8-inch Infotainment system Ready2Discover, which includes App-Connect Wireless and can be updated with an on-demand navigation system as required.

Trim levels have been tweaked and start with the Polo version, continuing with Life, Style and R-Line.

Engine line-up is the same as before and comprises a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol in three states of tune.

Sales start in the third quarter of 2021. Pricing is still to be announced.
