A key pillar for the brand in the UK – and a core model for fleets – the new, larger-size Octavia debuts latest styling plus increased safety and assistance tech and new engines; including the model’s first-ever plug-in hybrids.

When order books open next month, it will be offered in three trim grades, including two First Editions and an SE Technology trim aimed at fleets, and with a choice of three engines. These comprise a single petrol – a 150hp 1.5-litre TSI – and a 2.0-litre TDI diesel with either 115hp or 150hp. The former two come with a six-speed manual gearbox while the 150hp diesel, offered solely in SE L First Edition, features a seven-speed DSG gearbox as standard.

More engines will be added to the new Octavia range as the line-up expands throughout 2020. These will include a 1.0 TSI available with a manual transmission as well as mild-hybrid DSG 1.0 TSI and 1.5 TSI variants and plug-in hybrids.

Trim levels will also be expanded and will add in an entry-level S trim plus a flagship vRS model with a choice of diesel, petrol and plug-in hybrids; the latter marking the first-ever electrified vRS model.

Standard across all models will be third-generation MIB infotainment systems, Virtual Cockpit digital display, LED headlights, and Wireless Smartlink for Apple CarPlay.

As the initial entry-level trim grade, the SE First Edition comes with front assist, lane assist and e-Call system. It also features an infotainment system with 8.25-inch touchscreen display, eight loudspeakers, and full smartphone connectivity. The cabin features five USB-C ports, including one in the rear-view mirror for connecting to a dashcam. Prices start from £22,390 OTR for the 1.5 TSI 150hp hatch model.

Next up in the launch line-up is the Octavia SE Technology, created to particularly appeal to business users. It’s priced from £22,640 OTR for the 1.5 TSI 150hp hatch model; up £250 on the SE First Addition but adding in 16-inch alloy wheels, range-topping Columbus infotainment system with 10-inch touchscreen display, Remote Access, and infotainment online (one-year subscription). SE Technology buyers also get voice control and front and rear parking sensors with manoeuvre assist.

Positioned at the top of the new Octavia launch range is the SE L First Edition. This introduces 17-inch alloy wheels and chrome exterior detailing while the interior gets micro suede upholstery, heated front seats and LED ambient lighting, along with an electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory and lumbar support. The Columbus infotainment system is also standard, and comes with voice control, remote access and infotainment online (again, with a one-year subscription). Safety and assistance systems bring blind spot protection, front and rear parking sensors with manoeuvre assist and adaptive cruise control with follow to stop. Drive mode selection and keyless entry on all four doors with start/stop are also standard fit. Prices for SE L First Edition models start from £25,150 OTR for the 1.5 TSI 150hp hatch.

Deliveries of the new Octavia start from July.
