10% of accidents involve 15 and 65-plate cars, finds study

The study by Accident Exchange found that new car prangs last year generated £402m in repair revenue – an average of £2,050 per car – and equated to around 196,000 minor and serious new car accidents out of an estimated overall 2.2 million accidents a year.

Drivers tended to prang their 15 and 65-plate cars on the 57th day after the car was first registered. In fact, 32% of all 15 and 65-plate accidents happened within just two months of ownership.

The study examined 35,800 incidents recorded by Accident Exchange between February 2015 and January 2016.
