White Paper stresses public sector opportunities for cost reductions

"Streamlining for the new Realities" looks at the diverse vehicle provision arrangements currently being used in the public sector, examines where improvements can be made and outlines future strategies. It includes a nine-point Action Plan to help managers navigate the complex process of evaluation of current policy through to identifying areas for reform and improvement.

One of the themes explored in the Paper is that the public sector can learn from the recent experience of the private sector, which has made significant changes to transport policies resulting in tangible savings and benefits. Both private and public sector case studies are included to demonstrate the positive effects of outsourcing fleet.

Stuart Walker, brand director, Automotive Leasing, said: 'It is essential that managers are prepared to address the whole subject of business travel by motor vehicle and the White Paper offers an approach to achieve success. It explores the options available and how to exploit these against the reduction in resources expected to apply over the coming years.

'As budget necessities force the public sector to rethink the status quo, they have an opportunity not only to cut costs, but to implement a more efficient form of fleet management.'

Automotive Leasing said it will be discussing the White Paper with a wide range of public sector bodies, ranging from Whitehall departments to local councils.
