Powered by Volkswagen’s 1.6-litre 104bhp diesel engine, it features additional modifications over the existing BlueMotion Technology models. These include low rolling resistance tyres, a small drop in ride height and a revised radiator grille and underbody panel to minimise drag. Estate models gain a subtle rear spoiler.

As a result, fuel consumption for the saloon drops from 65.7mpg on the 1.6 S TDI to 68.9mpg for the BlueMotion, and a there's reduction in VED from band C to band B.

The estate, meanwhile, achieves 65.7mpg, compared to 64.2mpg, shifting it into the lowest 13% BiK tax band alongside the saloon.

Prices start at £19,875 for the saloon and £21,180 for the estate, a £220 increase over the conventional models on which they are based.
