During September and October, Fleet is offering free in-vehicle installation of its GPS-based telematics system – this compares to installation fees of as much as £100 per vehicle from other providers according to the company. FleetTrak prices start at £19.99 per month and contracts can be cancelled with just 28 days' notice.

Fleet believes that its special offer will win significant new business in the current uncertain economic climate.

The company, which bills itself as the 'biggest fleet company you have never heard of', manages a fleet of 4,000 company cars and vans, runs back-office systems for a number of major players in the leasing industry and now offers its services directly to businesses and consumers. Customers include Newcastle United Football Club.

Fleet founder James Law said: 'Our special introductory offer enables public and private sector fleets that may be uncertain as to the exact benefits of telematics to experience the technology in their own fleet operation at minimal cost.

'FleetTrak enables organisations to have a 24/7 view of their entire transport operation in real-time with data and reports available through a password controlled website accessible from any location. Data can also be used to compile bespoke reports, which can be emailed automatically to multiple recipients, daily, weekly or monthly.'

Using FleetTrak, fleet operators can monitor step-by-step activity, including vehicle location, journey status, speed and driving habits to ensure operations run to plan in the most effective and efficient manner. Real-time locations can also identify the nearest vehicle to a job or appointment to enhance customer response and avoid unnecessary mileage.

The company also says that FleetTrak differs from other telematics products as the system can be defined to meet individual customer requirements, offers Google mapping as standard and provides unique features such as AccidentTrak, which alerts fleet managers when a vehicle is involved in an accident.

Mr Law said: 'FleetTrak is an in-vehicle telematics solution from which key management and exceptional data is remotely accessed in a secure environment, allowing authorised users to benefit from a wide range of built in features and reports as well as exception-based alerts.'

He added: 'Our system has been developed to meet our requirements and specification drawn up in consultation with our customers. Unlike many other telematics providers Fleet is not reliant on third-party lease company funding, which has resulted in some telematics providers getting into financial difficulty in recent months.'

FleetTrak can be purchased, leased over a three, four or five-year period, or rented on a monthly basis.
