Renault reveals Frendzy van-cum car-concept

By / 13 years ago / Latest News / No Comments

Frendzy is designed as a van that can be swiftly converted into family transport out of working hours. As a van it features a 37-inch digital screen on the passenger side sliding door, which gives access to the load area. The exterior-facing digital screen can be used to carry the business livery or advertising. The screen is controlled from a BlackBerry PlayBook, which plugs into the centre console and automatically configures itself to the vehicle.

To demonstrate the vehicle's dual modes, the passenger side is unglazed behind the front passenger door. There is no B-pillar on either side and the conventional front-hinged front doors latch into the rear sliding side doors. On the driver's side, rear glazing makes the vehicle suitable for passenger transport. In "work" mode, the door mirrors are set upright and the interior is lit in green. In "family" mode, the mirrors swivel through 90 degrees and the interior is light with bright orange. This lighting is repeated on the vehicle exterior.

When used for work, the fabric roof adapts to the shape of bulky objects and magnetic fixings allow the load to be secured to the floor. Modular storage systems are also used. The one-piece rear bench seat folds away into the floor and the front passenger seat folds forward to maximise cargo space. Sensors on each door sill automatically log packages fitted with radio frequency identification (RFID) chips.

Power comes from the same 60PS battery electric drive train used in the Renault Kangoo Van ZE, due to go on sale here shortly.
