Audi has opened order books for its new Q5 SUV, which brings updates in standard equipment, connectivity, ride comfort, handling dynamics, efficiency and driver assistance.

New Q5 is also up to 90kg lighter than its predecessor.

Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, the second-generation model is priced from £37,170 OTR and offers increased interior space as well as luggage capacity up 10 litres.

The Q5 is also up to 90kg lighter than its predecessor helped by the use of steels with maximum tensile strength and aluminium.

Engine line-up from launch comprises a 187bhp 2.0 TDI diesel offering official combined fuel economy up to 56.5mpg with CO2 emissions of 132g/km, depending on wheel size.

Also available is an updated 249bhp 2.0 TFSI petrol engine offering up to 40.9mpg official combined and 157g/km – both engines come with the Quattro drive system with Ultra technology, which uses intelligent control to predict if all-wheel drive is needed and activate it within milliseconds.

The 3.0 TDI from the current line-up has also been revised and brings increased power, from 268bhp to 282bhp, while torque rises from 442lb.ft to 457lb.ft. Audi has not released economy figures for this engine, which will follow at a later date.

The Q5 also brings newly developed five-link suspension and optional adaptive air suspension and features the Audi Drive Select system as standard, which offers the choice of seven driving modes, including two new options, lift/offroad and allroad.

Specifications cover the familiar SE, Sport and S Line designations and bring increased standard equipment including the Audi Smartphone Interface, the Audi parking system plus and powered tailgate operation, as well as heated front seats, an acoustic windscreen, three-zone electronic climate control and pre-sense city collision prevention assistance.

Assistance systems range from adaptive cruise control with stop&go, predictive efficiency assistant, collision avoidance assistant and turn assist.

Latest figures taken from Volkswagen Financial Services and Cap Monitor show the new Q5 brings residual values highest in the segment but also setting a new record for an Audi model at launch.

Over three years/30,000 miles, the Q5 2.0 TDI quattro S Line S Tronic has a predicted RV of 58.3% with a minimum figure of 55% for all other models. The Q5 2.0 TDI quattro S Line S Tronic was also rated at 57% over the same three year/30,000-mile term by Cap Monitor.

The new Q5 is scheduled to start first deliveries in April.
