Pod Point offers UK’s first lease option on EV charging points
Under the deal, businesses can lease a POD point charging unit, have it installed professionally and gain immediate access to the Pay-as-you-Go facilities for less than £50/month, with the firm saying that charging points normally cost over £1,000 + VAT including installation and three-year warranty.
As well as the low-cost benefits, the business model has other benefits for firms according to POD Point, which points to the improvements in businesses’ sustainability credentials and that potential attraction for new customers by having a public POD Point visible on the national charge point map.
It added: ‘This in turn will increase customer loyalty, as the site will be seen as a convenient place to charge. Retailers will benefit hugely from customers charging their cars with them, through increased dwell time and average spend per visit. This is also an opportunity for businesses to attract and retain staff, as they are able to offer an equivalent pay rise through free fuel while they park at work.’
POD Point added that the cost of leasing a charging point is so low, that it will take just two charges a day to cover rental and energy costs, meaning that as the EV market continues to grow, businesses will have the ability to start generating revenue from charging.
Erik Fairbairn, CEO of POD Point, said: ‘POD Point is moving EV charging into the mass market. We are on a mission to make sure there are 100,000 POD Points across the country by 2020, and innovative commercial models such as our lease scheme are instrumental in allowing us to reach this goal.’
