Ed Hyland, fleet manager at Ripponden, West Yorkshire-based JLA, selected the FleetHR system from Mycompanyfleet, the automotive division of HR software supplier NorthgateArinso, to replace the existing excel spreadsheet based system he inherited when he took over the position last year.

'I wanted a fleet software system that allowed me to manage the fleet and control costs more effectively than the spreadsheet system I inherited, which was good but limited and very time consuming to keep up to date,' said Mr Hyland.

He opted for Mycompanyfleet's FleetHR system after identifying and interviewing several other leading fleet management software suppliers.

'Mycompanyfleet showed the most passion and the most enthusiasm for winning our business, as well as having the best system,' said Mr Hyland, who is responsible for a fleet of around 130 light commercial vehicles and 75 company cars.

'We have quite a diverse fleet with a number of different types of vehicles, including four trucks, and I wanted a system which gave me greater control over their operation,' he added.

'FleetHR uses a powerful dashboard based system to highlight any areas I should be investigating, such as cost over-runs, as well as integrating extremely well with services from other suppliers, such as the Arval fuelcard, which allows us to download and input fuel information for all our drivers within seconds.

'The system also allows us to build up data on the cost of various parts and services, and then flags up any overspend against previous invoices. Used in this way, it will allow us to manage our service, maintenance and repair costs far more efficiently,' said Mr Hyland.

Another benefit is the system's ability to build up driver profiles, based on the number of points on their driving licence and frequency of blameworthy accidents, to help identify those of high and low risk.

'This helps us in our risk management and ensuring that we are compliant with the latest government health and safety legislation,' added Mr Hyland.

JLA also takes advantage of the Mycompanyfleet pay-as-you-go system, which allows the company to pay monthly with no initial upfront investment, thus helping budgeting and accurate monitoring of all costs.

'Mycompanyfleet's support team has also been very helpful during the implementation stage and have resolved any issues I may have had very quickly and effectively, to make sure the whole process has run smoothly,' commented Mr Hyland.
