New web app offers routing for EVs

A new web app is to launch this spring to provide EV drivers with a complete route and recharging schedule.

The app is free to download and is intended to eliminate range anxiety.

Developed by route optimisation specialist Route Monkey with R&D funding support from Scottish Enterprise, the app will be available for free from 5 May and is intended to eliminate range anxiety.

The driver logs in via a web portal and inputs their start point, destination and type of EV into MyRouteMonkey. The web app then calculates the best route and provides instructions on when and where to stop to recharge the battery. The driver can even specify how much battery charge they want their vehicle to retain at the end of the journey to make sure they are not caught short on their next trip.

To see a video of TV presenter and EV advocate Quentin Willson using a demo version of the MyRouteMonkey app, click here: http://www.routemonkey.com/drivers/everything-ev/myroutemonkey-ev-journey-planner.
