New engines and technology for refreshed Audi A3
New models are marked out by the brand’s single-frame grille, with flatter headlights and redesigned tail lights, and Audi is offering Matrix LED headlight technology for the first time.
The diesel engine line-up is mostly carried forward, including the familiar 148bhp and 182bhp 2.0-litre diesel engines and a slight increase in power to 108bhp for the 1.6-litre TDI. Fuel economy has not been released as yet.
New to the range is the 1.0-litre TFSI petrol engine, an three-cylinder unit used on the Golf BlueMotion, which produces 113bhp, which joins the 1.4 and 2.0-litre TFSI units, e-tron plug-in hybrid and the S3 hot hatch.
Traffic jam assist is said to be new to the segment, offering assisted steering and automatic stop and go functions at up to 40.4mph. This is also the first A3 to feature the Emergency Assist system with cross-traffic detection while backing out of parking spaces, and the new car also inherits the all-digital Virtual Cockpit dashboard display from the TT.
Sales in Europe start in early May, though Audi has yet to confirm when it goes on sale in the UK.
