The estate version of BMW 5 Series Touring brings increased boot capacity.

Available to order now, priced from £38,075 OTR, the 2017 5 Series Touring is slightly larger than the outgoing model, with boot space of 570 litres to 1,700 litres – up 10 and 30 litres respectively.

It also offers an increased payload of 730kg – up 120kg – and all models feature 40:20:40 near flat-folding rear seat backrests, which can be released remotely from the boot at the push of a button as well as load-dividing nets and an underfloor storage area in the boot, while self-levelling rear air suspension is also now standard.

Despite its increased dimensions, the new model weighs on average 100kg less, helping to lead to a reduction of up to 11% in fuel consumption. The economy champion is the 187bhp 520d model, with official NEDC combined fuel consumption of 65.6mpg and 114g/km, while the engine line-up also includes 228bhp 525d and 261bhp 530d units and 181bhp 520i and 249bhp 530i petrols. At the top of the range is the 335bhp 540i xDrive, while the 530d can also be specified with xDrive. All models come with an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard.

Other changes see enhancements to the optional Dynamic Damper Control system and Adaptive Drive, and an expanded selection of driver assistance systems, including Collision Warning and Pedestrian Warning with City Braking function as standard as well as Cruise Control with Braking function.

Optional features cover Active Cruise Control (ACC) with Stop & Go function, a Lane Keeping Assistant, Side Collision Warning system and Remote Control Parking function.

New services are also available via the BMW Connected system, linking with devices such as an Apple iPhone, watch or Android smartphone and smartwatch, and the 5 Series Touring also offers a secure server connection for exchanging and editing emails, calendar entries and contact details using the Microsoft Exchange function built into the vehicle.
