Mercedes Adds Diesel Engine To SLK Range

By / 13 years ago / Latest News / No Comments

The SLK 250 CDI is powered by the same 2143cc four-cylinder engine fitted to other models in the Mercedes-Benz range. It offers 201bhp and 369lb-ft and suitably sporty acceleration figures. 62mph arrives in 6.7 seconds, while its high torque gives quickest-in-class in-gear acceleration times. Perfect for overtaking, the diesel SLK accelerates from 50 to 75bhp in just over four seconds.

This is matched by an equally impressive fuel economy figure of 57.7mpg, equivalent to a CO2 emission figure of under 130g/km, making it an attractive addition to company car choice lists. Mercedes-Benz claims this gives it enough range to drive from the North Sea to the Mediterranean without a fuel stop.

Most importantly, these figures allow it to beat the Audi TT 2.0 TDI on both performance and economy.

Options match the rest of the SLK range, including three suspension setups and all three vario roof options. At launch, the SLK 250 CDI will be available with a 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic gearbox, with a six-speed manual to follow in the second quarter of 2012.

Continental Europe will get the diesel SLK in September for £36,700 (€41,828.50) including VAT, followed by a UK sales launch at the end of the year. Prices for the UK have yet to be confirmed.
