Kia says the ‘bold off-roader was conceived by Kia's California design studio and built for city dwellers seeking the ultimate urban escape. Intended to enable a wide array of outdoor activities from skiing and snowboarding, to camping, hiking and mountain biking, this rugged runabout captures the essence of adventuring at higher elevations with the promise of surefootedness in the wild.’

It’s not clear yet whether the concept will feature a fully electric or hybrid drivetrain but the technology would use an electric motor to drive the rear wheels, instead of a mechanical connection to the transmission at the front of the car.

This could feature a conventional petrol engine, as in Lexus, Volvo and PSA’s four-wheel drive hybrid systems, or a second motor as used by Tesla, or a combination of the two as in the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.

According to reports, the concept could preview all-wheel drive version of the conventional petrol and diesel Kia Soul models too.
