Fleet drivers risking being caught out by European motorways, warns Venson

By / 10 years ago / Latest News / No Comments

The study by Venson Automotive Solutions found that:

  • 79% of motorists were unaware that carrying a breathalyser in their car is a legal European requirement.
  • 59% of motorists were unaware they are required by law to have their original V5 or Vehicle on Hire Certificate VE103 with them in a car when driving in Europe.
  • 64% of motorists believe they are required by law to carry a First Aid Kit in their car – which is NOT the case in the majority of European countries.  Only Austria and Croatia require this by law.
  • V5, GB sign and Insurance Documents are all required as standard across Europe – yet more people surveyed believed a First Aid Kit was a legal requirement than a GB sign.

In response the firm urges fleet managers to provide the tools drivers need to be better prepared.

Simon Staton, director of client management at Venson Automotive Solutions, stated: ‘Our survey suggests that many motorists drove in Europe this summer and unwittingly broke the law. It's crucial that fleet drivers familiarise themselves with the motoring regulations and laws if they are planning to drive their company vehicle abroad at any time of year.  If they don't they could find themselves having to pay a hefty on the spot fine or worst case scenario, their car could be confiscated.’
