Euro 6 diesel engine brings Astra down to 97g/km
Previously only fitted to the Zafira Tourer and Meriva, the engine is now available in 108 and 134bhp forms in the Astra five-door hatchback and Sports Tourer Estate, with deliveries from April.
It uses a more efficient combustion process than its predecessor, with a high pressure common rail injection system, NOx trap and exhaust gas after-treatent to comply with Euro 6 emissions regulations and Stop/Start as standard.
Economy is identical in both body styles, the 108bhp version returning 76.3mpg with CO2 emissions of 97g/km, while the 134bhp engine is slightly higher on both counts – at 104g/km and 72.4mpg.
Prices start at £17,645 for the hatchback and £18,655 for the Sports Tourer, while fleet-focused Tech Line models start at £18,810 and £19,830 respectively. Expect the engine to be rolled out in the Astra GTC and Insignia range later in the year.
