Called "FUEL – Saving Money Via Resource Management, Alternative Sources, Conversion to More Valuable and Environmental Fuels", the conference will investigate the value of efficient use of existing fuel before addressing sustainable fleet management by examining the basics of fuel management, mileage management, eco-driving and vehicle technology.

There will also be an introduction to new fuel sources, such as using methane and hydrogen, before addressing conversion to more efficient fuel sources, such as biomethane and CNG (compressed natural gas) for trucks.

Jack Rickard, programme manager at Skills for Logistics, said: “This is a vital event for logistics operators to attend. With 10% of greenhouse gases produced by the logistics industry, sustainability and fuel efficiency has become a crucial skill in our sector.

'FUEL (Fuel Usage for Economic Logistics) is a key part of Skills for Logistics’ sustainability remit and we are planning initiatives to help smaller operators finance the conversion of their tractor units to use a diesel and LPG combination. These schemes could lead to apprenticeships for fuel efficiency and sustainability in logistics.'
