The unit will be available from autumn 2011 and features the latest generation of VALVETRONIC systems together with solenoid injectors to improve efficiency and performance. The new engine will produce 245bhp and 350Nm torque from 1,250rpm whilst returning a combined consumption figure of 35.7mpg – 16% better than the equivalent six-cylinder engine – with CO2 emissions of 186g/km. 

The 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine will be available in models such as the BMW Z4 and 5 Series models in due course.
