16.5 million UK drivers to take to roads this bank holiday
Over half (52%) of drivers – equivalent to 16.5 million people – are planning on using their car to travel this bank holiday weekend, according to new research by Confused.com.
The price comparison site found that almost one in seven (15%) drivers will be going for a short UK ‘staycation’. Meanwhile, more than one in five (22%) will visit friends and family, while one in five (20%) will be going on a day trip.
However, there are many drivers that won’t be travelling this August bank holiday. More than a third (35%) say traffic is always too bad to go anywhere. One in five (20%) say they hate driving over the bank holiday weekend, while just over one in 10 (11%) say driving on the bank holiday is a complete waste of time.
Despite this, three-quarters (75%) of drivers say they enjoy driving most of the time. When asked what driving means to them, almost two-thirds (65%) of drivers included “freedom” in their choice, while three-quarters (75%) said “independence”.
